Charles “Chuck” Schumer was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Sheepshead Bay where he attended PS 197 and Madison High School.  After graduating from Harvard College and Harvard Law School in 1974, Senator Schumer returned home and ran for the NY State Assembly, becoming at 23, the youngest member of the State Legislature since Theodore Roosevelt. In 1990, at 29, he was elected to the US Congress representing Brooklyn and Queens in the 9th Congressional district.  In 1998, Senator Schumer was elected to the U.S. Senate and in 2010, he took on an expanded role in the Senate as Chairman of the Democratic Policy Communications Center.  He also sits on the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; the Judiciary Committee, where he is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security; and the Joint Committee on the Library.
